The image shows Ujani Dam, also known as Bhima Ujani Project, one of the major dams in Maharashtra, India. It is built across the Bhima River near Ujani village in Solapur district. The dam is a large masonry-cum-earthfill structure with multiple spillway gates, which can be seen releasing water in the image. Ujani Dam plays a vital role in irrigation, drinking water supply, flood control, and electricity generation for Solapur, Pune, and nearby regions. Water from the dam supports agriculture in drought-prone areas of western Maharashtra. The reservoir formed by the dam is also known as Ujani Lake, which becomes a habitat for migratory birds during winter and is important for fisheries. The dam is an important lifeline for farmers and contributes significantly to the region’s economy, especially during dry seasons.
